A West Virginia Family Tradition
Perdue Grocery opened its doors in Manila, West Virginia in 1946, supplying much-needed staples to the citizens of that rural community for the next 25 years. For 30 years prior to 1946, a general store was operated by the Perdue family at various locations throughout the area. Although Perdue Grocery closed in 1970 due to the construction of Corridor G, the building was relocated and still stands on the Perdue family farm on Dog Fork of Boone County, West Virginia.

Stephen G. Perdue, grandson of the original founder and son of long time proprietors, Glen and Mary Perdue, re-opened Perdue Grocery on May 23, 1997, in Charleston's exciting new marketplace-Capitol Market.

Perdue Grocery Again
Being a long-time resident and a native West Virginian with a rural background, I am particularly interested in the promotion of quality goods produced and marketed throughout the state, and I am eager to participate in the effort to provide a year-round retail outlet for local producers and entrepreneurs. In keeping with the tradition of the original Perdue Grocery, the new store-decorated with memorabilia for the old family store-features pantry products and specialty foods not readily available at most retail establishments. Made-to-order gourmet gift baskets and on-site tastings and vendor demonstrations are only a few of the exciting concepts underway at Perdue Grocery.
